Sight-Seeing in Nepal - Khokana and Bungmati

General Information

Khokana and Bungamati are two beautiful Newar villages that still have their age-old character intact. The compact villages consist of rows of brick houses with wooden carved windows and the street paved with flagstones. Khokana has long been popular as an oil pressing center where mustard seeds are pressed using traditional methods.

Bungamati is especially popular as a winter home of 'Red Machhendranath', the god of rain. The shrine is brought to Patan for the chariot festival in summer.
